Fillings – Composite and Ceramic
Fillings are used after decay from a tooth has been removed.
At 6th Sense Dental, we do not use or recommend amalgam (more commonly known as silver fillings). Composite fillings are made out of a mixture of resin and fine glass particles. Used for inlays and to fill in the small gaps, composite resin fillings are cost effective as well as resilient. Ceramics fillings are most commonly made of types of porcelain and are used when a greater portion of your tooth is missing. The biggest advantage of both these types is that they are the same color as your tooth and not readily visible. Also, no mercury or other harmful metals are used. Read More →
Porcelain veneers are ideal for people who want to improve their smile. Dr. Victoria uses porcelain veneers to treat a wide range of dental concerns, including discoloration, enamel that is worn down, abnormal spacing, chipped, crooked, and cracked teeth. Porcelain veneers are thin shells that are placed onto the front of the teeth and bonded to the surface. Veneers can be made of different materials, but porcelain is most often used because it is durable, and creates a natural appearance. After porcelain veneers are bonded to the teeth, maintenance is the same as that of your natural teeth. Some veneers require no tooth to be removed and can be removed by a trained dentist at a later date. Porcelain veneers are strong and durable and typically only become damaged if mistreated. Crowns are one of the most common treatment methods for cavities or fractures that have affected a predominant portion of the part of the tooth visible in your mouth. The tooth is cleaned, shaped, and then covered with a thin cap or crown. The principle reason behind the covering is so that the tooth remains protected from further damage allowing you to chew and function normally. An impression of your teeth will be made to make the crown virtually a replica of your original tooth. Color matching is also performed to match the rest of your teeth for a natural look. Porcelain crowns are a great investment and have been known to last for decades with the proper care. Ask Dr. Victoria about the various types of crowns that are available, including porcelain-fused-to-metal, zirconia, Emax, lithium disilicate, metal, and more! We provide all the various types at no additional cost. Read More →
There are a variety of reasons you can lose your teeth. The most common reasons are due to advanced cavities or periodontal disease. When teeth are missing your cheeks and lips sink inward, causing the chin and cheekbones to look more prominent. This “facial collapse” can make a person look significantly older than they really are. Dentures can restore your natural facial structure by supporting the jaw, cheeks and lips. Complete dentures can also be attached to implants by various methods to help with retention as you chew and speak. 6th Sense Dental wants to help you smile with confidence again. Dr. Victoria will work with you to choose dentures that are custom designed and individually crafted for a remarkably natural look, fit and feel. We work with you to match the color and shape of your final teeth before processing to ensure you are happy with the appearance of your smile. You’ll be able to laugh, chew, swallow, and speak. Give us a call if you have more questions about dentures. Read More →
As opposed to complete dentures, a partial is also known as a removable denture. These are implemented when there are remaining permanent teeth in the lower or upper jaw but missing teeth that still need to be replaced. Unless supported by implants, partials rely on your remaining teeth for support. Partials are made with acrylic and can be with or without metal. Our talented team of dental professionals can create a partial denture that will seamlessly fill in the gaps between your remaining teeth restoring your smile. Read More →
If your partials or dentures are not fitting to your comfort level a lot of the times it is a matter of the denture flange If your partials or dentures are not fitting to your comfort level it is often a matter of the denture flange not forming to the contour of the mouth. When a person’s teeth are missing their body starts to absorb the bone that once supported those teeth. This process usually happens over a period of 10 to 20 years on average and causes the bone in the jaw to shrink substantially. Is your dentures are not fitting as seamlessly as they used to the 6th Sense Dental Team can evaluate your issue and provide a custom fitting flange. Comfort is key to a healthy mouth.
One of the most common modes of treatment for tooth nerve damage is Root Canal Therapy. The root is cleaned with water and antiseptics, after which the damaged section is filled with a soft filling material. Leaving your natural tooth still in place, and resistant to any further infection. Finally, a crown is placed over the newly filled area in order to prevent further damage, erosion and to ensure that the tooth stays protected for a longer time. Although associated with discomfort, it is usually the root canal procedure that begins the healing process and eliminates pain. Treatment may be paired with a course of antibiotics. Read More →
Prevention is a key principle to oral health. Dental cleanings are one of the most important practices to avoid other oral ailments and prolong the life of your previous dental work. Regular cleanings help remove the plaque that covers the enamel causing a number of dental issues. It also enables Dr. Victoria to evaluate any issues you may not be aware of prior to them progressing into a worse situation. In addition to enamel care, root surfaces are also debrided and smoothed. This helps to prevent periodontal or gum disease. If you have been previously treated for gum disease, more frequent cleanings are strongly recommended and based on the extent of bone loss or inflammation surrounding your teeth. Contact Dr. Victoria today to get your teeth fresh and clean. Read More →

Straight teeth are healthy teeth. One of the alternatives to metal braces is the clear, corrective aligner called Invisalign. Each Invisalign tray is worn for approximately two weeks, and the number of trays varies depending on the amount of correction needed. Invisalign can provide the same benefit as traditional braces, but with the added benefits of being able to remove them and less visible. This allows patients to clean their teeth without interference from traditional braces. Not only is this meant to improve the aesthetics, but also has a very distinctive functional role. Having straight, aligned teeth decrease the chances of gum stress, and tooth decay.
